Janet Turner

Welcome to Mrs. Turner's Webpage. Beginning at Millikan in 2004, I continue to be elated to be a part of the Millikan Culture.  I am proud of our school and the students we have.

My Biographical Information
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Texas A M -- Commerce in 1977, including my Texas teaching credential. I moved to California and decided I wanted to go into the business world. Beginning as an Administrative Assistant and working my way up, some of the positions I held were: Financial Manager, Assistant Controller, and Systems Project Manager.  While working, I earned my master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from CSULB in 1983.
After 23 years in the business world, I made the life changing decision to share my real world experience and go back into education, my original career of choice.  While teaching a Business Communications course at Cypress College, substitute teaching in three school districts and renewing my teaching credential in California, it seems as if I took every known educational test and class California State University, Long Beach had to offer.  During this time, I also sang at several venues for compensation and for the love of music.
Finally, having earned a Multi-subject credential, my CLAD certificate, and Single subject credentials in English and Business, I was lucky enough to land a position at Millikan High School in the fall of 2004. Since my husband graduated from Millikan in the sixties, our family was thrilled to be back in “Ram Territory”.
The first year I taught Sophomore English and Senior Literature of Western Civilization. AVID was expanding here and I got to be part of that team my second year at Millikan as we were becoming a National Demonstration School. My students in AVID have been in the classes of 2009, 2011, 2015, 2019, 2020, and 2021. It has been a joy to watch my students learn and grow as scholars and citizens of the world.
In the fall of 2007, I moved from the KIUP SLC to the GREEN academy with the hope of generating respect for the Earth, the environment and nature in the students and community that we serve at Millikan.  I developed a class in and taught Environmental Journalism.  I have taught classes in the QUEST and PEACE academies.  In the fall of 2018, I found a new home in the PEACE Academy and began teaching a couple of classes in the MIT academy.  MIT has changed it's focus and is now the SEGA SLC.
I look forward to another great year at Millikan.
