I have been teaching English full-time for 18 years. After receiving a BA in English from Portland State University and a Masters in Teaching from Seattle University, I was immediately hired at my student teaching post (Franklin High School, Seattle Public Schools) to "clean up the school newspaper and legitimize it". While there, I taught sophomore English, journalism, and newspaper production. I have been teaching in the LBUSD since the 2000-2001 school year, and at Millikan High School since 2001-2002. Currently, I teach AP English Language & Composition and CSU Expository Reading & Writing and am on the senior Peace small learning community team.
Fun facts: I have taught middle school math in both Seattle and Long Beach, have undergone cervical surgery in both Germany and Santa Monica, and am the father of two strong boys, Caleb and Jacob. I enjoy snowboarding, kayaking, photography, stand-up paddle boarding, wakeboarding, and have owned a ski boat. I was the captain of both the track and cross-country teams both my junior and senior years of high school, and have never ran since. I committed five years of my life to a 24/7 inner-city youth ministry in Portland. I was born in Santa Barbara, and have lived in Montecito, Portland, and Seattle (not to mention my extended stays in the USSR, San Francisco, and Kenya).
