ACT and SAT Testing

College Admission Tests

Students applying to 4 year universities have had to take either the SAT or ACT exam for admission purposes.  In 2020, the CSU and UC system decided not to use these exams for admission purposes.  Though more college and universities are "test optional" for admissions, there are colleges and univerisities, including honors programs at a community colleges, certain merit-based scholarships, that still require students to submit either an SAT or ACT score. The SAT tests critical reading, math, and writing abilities and the ACT tests English, math, reading, and science.

Long Beach Unified has offered the SAT exam to students free of charge in March of the junior year as well as October of their senior year (With the exception of 2020 due to COVID-19).  Students may also sign up to take these exams on Saturdays during national test dates.  There are fees associated with these exams but fee waivers are available to students who qualify.
