Dear Millikan Nation,

The recent events have left some with questions about the safety of our students. At Millikan, we do want to reassure you that the safety of our students is and always will be our number one priority. We have a number of procedures in place to keep our students and staff safe:

·        at the start of the school day, all of our entrances are monitored by our Campus Security Officers

·        during the school day, only one entrance to our school is open and it is monitored all day

·        security cameras are posted throughout the campus

·        a School Resource Officer from Long Beach Police Department is assigned to our campus as part of our regular staff

·        we conduct random classroom searches weekly

·        we practice lockdown procedures and various safety drills each year and will be conducting one in the next few days

·        there is a threat assessment protocol in place to evaluate potential threats

·        the Millikan staff is currently completing a review of safety procedures

We are on heightened alert and we will continue to supervise all areas of the school. The main safety nets we have in place are the eyes and ears of our students, staff and parents. As always, our continuing message is, “If you see something, say something.”

We stay committed to making Millikan a safe place to learn for our students. Thank you for being a partner in the success and safety of our students.

Mr. Navia and Mr. Vega
